Chris Paul just 10th player in NBA history to reach 8,000 assists

Chris Paul on Sunday became just the 10th player in NBA history to reach the 8,000-assist milestone.

TheLA Clipperspoint guard, who entered Sunday's game against the Miami Heat needing six assists to achieve the feat, notched his sixth assist with 59 seconds remaining in the first quarter on a pass that resulted in aMarreese Speights dunk.

Paul finished with 19 points, 18 assists and just one turnover in the Clippers' 98-86 win.

After the game, Paul said he was unaware of the milestone.

"I didn't know that. Cool. I guess that means I've been playing for a while now," he told Fox Sports West in an on-court interview.

Paul, 31, reached the 8,000-assist mark in just his 806th game. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, he is the third-fastest to reach 15,000 points and 8,000 assists, behind Magic Johnson and Oscar Robertson.

Paul has 8,012 career assists after his 18-assist effort Sunday.

Paul has passed Rod Strickland (7,987) on the all-time assists list. Former Utah Jazz star John Stockton sits atop the all-time list with 15,806 assists.
