GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez will see limited action for at least another two weeks as he deals with inflammation in his right elbow.

The restrictions, for an injury commonly known as tennis elbow, will put Gonzalez's availability for the World Baseball Classic in jeopardy. Gonzalez was expected to play for his native Mexico in the WBC, and for his brother Edgar, who will manage the club.

"The doctor's orders are to lay off it for two weeks, and in two weeks we will do a couple of minor tests," said Gonzalez, who suspects his offseason regimen of boxing and weightlifting contributed to the issue. "If it's good in two weeks, we'll wait one more week, and I'm 100 percent ready to go."

Gonzalez's diagnosis came last week, so he has already completed one week of downtime. The discomfort first started to surface in December. If his tests reveal that he is completely healed, he will be ready to swing a bat by March 4, when he joins Team Mexico for the WBC.

At this point, Gonzalez's brother is actually more worried about the injury than the Dodgers are.

"He's praying," Gonzalez said with a laugh.
