LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers have reinstated Kike Hernandez from the 15-day disabled list and started him in center field against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Hernandez hit .189 with five homers and 12 RBI in 65 games before he was placed on the disabled list on June 28 with left ribcage inflammation. He was 3 for 24 (.125) during six games in a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment.
Hernandez, who had started at five positions for Los Angeles already in 2016, made his first start in center field on Sunday. The only positions he has not played are pitcher, catcher and at first base.
To make room for Hernandez on their active roster, the Dodgers optioned Austin Barnes to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Barnes has hit .130 in 14 games over three stints with Los Angeles this year.
