LOS ANGELES -- TheDodgershave sent teenage pitcher Julio Urias to Triple-A after eight starts in an effort to control his innings.
The left-hander was 1-2 with a 4.95 ERA after making his big league debut on May 27 against the Metsin New York.
The team has the 19-year-old from Mexico pitching on an unspecified innings limit this season. He was scheduled to be sent down earlier, but several injuries to the rotation forced an extended stay.
Urias gave up six hits and five earned runs in 3 innings of the Dodgers' 7-5 win over theBaltimore Orioleson Monday. He has pitched 77innings for the Dodgers and Triple-A Oklahoma City.
His departure opens up a spot in the rotation for Hyun-Jin Ryu, who is set to start on Thursday for the first time since the 2014 playoffs after recovering from shoulder injuries.
In a corresponding move on Tuesday, the Dodgers recalled left-hander Luis Avilan from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Avilan has appeared in four games in two previous stints with the Dodgers this season, allowing three runs in one inning pitched.
