An MRI on right-hander Jered Weaver's left hip revealed no structural damage or tears a day after the Los Angeles Angels put him on the 15-day disabled list.

The team's immediate treatment for Weaver is to allow the condition of his hip to improve with a few days of rest.

"He won't pick up a ball for five days, and then we'll just try to see where he is and move forward from there," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "I have a lot of confidence that we're going to see him get better, but right now, there's no doubt about just trying to exhale a little bit and get him back where he needs to be."

One day after Weaver suffered his fourth consecutive defeat in the Angels' Saturday loss to the Oakland Athletics, the team decided to put him on the DL.

Weaver (4-8) said he has been bothered by soreness in his hip for some time but doesn't think it's related to his current slump.

Still, the Angels are taking a cautious approach with their 32-year-old pitcher, who last won May 30. In his four starts since then, Weaver has given up 19 earned runs in 26 innings.
