Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout was not in the lineup again Tuesday because of stiffness in his neck, which he suffered after crashing into the outfield wall in Sunday's game against Houston.

Manager Mike Scioscia said Monday he hoped to get Trout back for Tuesday night's game against Oakland, but Trout sat out his second straight game as he nurses his sore neck.

With Trout still sidelined, Cameron Maybinstarted in center field and batted leadoff. Ben Reverestarted in left field and batted second.

Trout was injured in Los Angeles' 7-5 loss to the Astros after leaping in vain to try to make a game-saving catch off Brian McCann's bases-loaded triple on Sunday.

A two-time American League MVP, Trout is in an 0-for-17 slump. The longest slump of his career came in 2014 when he went 0-for-18. Overall, he's hitting .318 with 26 homers and 60 RBIs in 86 games.

Trout missed 39 games, from June through early July, after injuring his thumb sliding headfirst into second base. He had surgery and missed six weeks of big league action.

Also Tuesday, the Angels placed closer Bud Norris on the 10-day disabled list because of right knee inflammation.

Norris, 32, has been dealing with the injury on and off for about two months. The knee also forced him onto the disabled list June 20 and forced him from a game at Miami after three pitches on May 26.

Norris has made 54 appearances this year in his first season with the Angels. He is 2-5 with a 4.41 ERA.

Norris' move to the DL was retroactive to Sunday.

The Angels also transferred right-hander Huston Street to the 60-day disabled list as he works his way back from a strained latissimus dorsi muscle in his back.

Third baseman Yunel Escobar (Class A-Inland Empire) and right-hander Garrett Richards (Triple-A Salt Lake) were scheduled to begin rehab assignments.

To take his spot on the roster for Norris' DL stint, the Angels added outfielder Eric Young Jr. to the major league roster.
