LOS ANGELES --Rutgershas withdrawn from a two-game football series with UCLAscheduled for 2020 and 2021.
According to a deal signed in 2009, the schools were to play a home-and-home series at Rutgers in 2016 and at the Rose Bowl in 2017. However, in 2014, those games were pushed back to 2020 and 2021, respectively, to accommodate a Rutgers series with Washington.
UCLA says it offered to flip the order of the games to keep the deal intact, but Rutgers declined.
As part of the deal, Rutgers is required to pay UCLA a $500,000 termination fee within 30 days of being asked.
UCLA says it will begin looking for opponents to fill the vacant schedule dates.
