LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Sparks guard Riquna Williams will miss the upcoming season because of a ruptured left Achilles tendon.
The team said Wednesday that she was hurt while playing with a club in Abu Dhabi. The injury will require surgery and no timetable has been set for her return.
The Sparks acquired Williams and the sixth pick in this year's WNBA draft from Dallas in exchange for guard Erin Phillips. Williams has averaged 13.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.4 steals in 100 games with the Tulsa Shock, which has since become the Dallas Wings.
Williams averaged career highs in rebounds, assists and minutes last year, her fourth in the league.
The Sparks open the season on May 15.
