Art students design wearable technology of the future
Art Center College of Design students competed in a challenge to design the wearable technology of the future.

PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A hat that knows when to cover the eyes and ears. A shirt that deflates when you talk. Programmable nail art that buzzes and glows.

Those are just some of the ideas graduate students at Pasadena's Art Center College of Design came up with in a challenge to create wearable technology.

Art Center Professor Phil van Allen had no idea what the students would come up with.

"We told the students don't go to the cliches of say the smart watch or the other things we see today, but look beyond that and what's the potential for the future," van Allen said.
