DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (KABC) -- A group of fire ants was spotted braving floodwaters by banding together and creating a floating raft near Charleston, South Carolina.
The ants apparently use their jaws, claws and sticky substance on their legs to form life rafts. Their exteriors are already water repelling.
The island drifts about until it hits dry land and the colony can rebuild.
The most important members of the colony, the larvae and the queen ant, are kept safe in the middle.
