LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- With the extreme heat wave expected to last at least another day, officials are urging residents to conserve energy.
Officials with the L.A. Department of Water and Power say the city is approaching an all-time record for energy demand.
By 2:30 p.m., the demand was at 6,074 megawatts, and the all-time record of 6,177 megawatts was set on Sept. 27, 2010.
Residents are advised to conserve electricity to "reduce strain on the grid."
An excessive heat warning was issued for most of the Southland until Tuesday at 7 p.m.
