Stretch, strengthen: workout goes anywhere

"I like it because it works out everything," said Soni Torcioni.

At Crunch in L.A., a new class called BodyWeb with TRX System has many sweating and stretching and spinning from a series of straps for a total body workout.

"They established a system creating a portable gym that could go anywhere, but at the same time challenge any level of fitness," said David Branian.

He's right. The tool is the TRX (Total Resistance Exercise), which can be used by novice, athlete, and even for those in rehabilitation. While this smart technology is available to mainstream America, it was created first for military use. Necessity really is the mother of invention. The TRX was invented by a Navy Seal using his parachute trying to get fit out in the field.

"The original was made it out of parachute web and an old judo belt," said Chris Camacho.

Camacho says the Seals embellished the TRX, making it easy to take fitness anywhere.

"You can mount it over a door, you can mount it over a chain link fence, you can mount it inside," said Comacho. "There's 300 exercises for strength, Pilates, stretch, and core movement."

The Crunch BodyWeb class hits the core hard, taxing abdominals and back muscles to support limbs, neck, and spine. Ten people can gather to push the limit for a 45 minute class.

Brainan suggests beginners get one-on-one training to learn how to stabilize joints and support weak backs.

"These suspended exercises do run the risk if you don't know what you are doing, you could hurt yourself," said Brainan.

Keep in mind, buying your own comes with instructional DVD ($150).
