Michael Jackson waxed figure unveiled

LOS ANGELES Hundreds of Jackson fans gathered in front of Madame Tussauds to watch the unveiling, which took place just steps away from Jackson's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Jackson's star still gets a lot of attention on Hollywood Blvd. The folks from Madame Tussauds hope their Michael Jackson wax figure will also be a popular attraction.

They say it was always their plan to have Michael Jackson as part of their collection.

"We saw the popularity when he died. His star is just around the corner of the attraction, so we thought we've got to get him in here," says marketing director Drew Potton of Madame Tussauds. "Then we did our report, and I guess the first three weeks from when we were open, he came out top above every other star. People wanted to see him in here, so we tried to get it figured out as quickly as possible. And that is why the launch is happening today."

This is the 14th waxed figure of Michael Jackson in a /*Madame Tussauds Museum*/.

"We've done him as 'Thriller,' we've done him as 'Bad,' now he's got kind of like a 'Smooth Criminal' feel about him," said Potton. "But it also has to do with his latest artwork from his show - which unfortunately didn't happen - in London. But that's how they wanted to see him, and he looks amazing."

The unveiling comes just two days before what would have been Jackson's 51st birthday.
