Sunday night, just before 8, on the 4500 block of Begonia Road, detectives say a long-simmering feud between neighbors came to a boil.
"Sheriff's department received a 911 call of a shooting that occurred in Phelan. We responded out there and discovered three bodies in the roadway. All three of them were deceased. There were two males and a female," says Arden Wiltshire, police spokesperson.
Detectives released the names of the victims as being 41-year-old Adam Owen, 40-year-old Robert Lights and 45-year-old Angela Leird, all of Phelan.
Police arrested a suspect, 55-year old Dennis Fletchner.
John Leird drove in from Arizona Monday. He says he hit the road soon after his 18-year-old daughter frantically called him last night saying her mother had been shot dead.
"She's my former wife. We're all shocked. You know, everybody's shocked about the whole thing. I don't really know right now," says John Leird.
Authorities won't talk specifics when talking about exactly what the dispute was about, but they say it was pretty intense for the suspect to allegedly pull out a gun and shoot three of his victims right here in the street. Residents in this community are shocked.
"Right now, we're still trying to determine exactly what took place between these three people and the suspect, and that's what investigators are working on," says Wiltshire.
"I drove down the dirt road and just saw three bodies laying out in the front right here. That's about it. Don't know what happened. Don't know anything about it. It's crazy," says Mike Haige, a Phelan resident.
Residents say they don't know much about the suspect or the victims. Fletchner, the lone murder suspect, is behind bars without bail.
