BURBANK, Calif. (AP) - Even porn stars have to unwind. And what better way than karaoke? Every Tuesday night is Porn Star Karaoke Night at Sardo's Grill and Lounge in Burbank, Calif. On one recent evening, Julie Meadows from "Alice in Fetishland" and fellow X-rated actress Nicki Hunter belted out a version of "Wild Thing." The evenings also attract people who work behind the cameras in pornos, so there's a lot of schmoozing and deal making, along with the singing. You might think porn stars are a pretty uninhibited bunch. But Magdalene St. Michaels says it's harder to sing in public than having sex in front of people.
CASH-FILLED CAN
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Attention Kmart shoppers -- anyone missing $10,000?
Workers at a Kmart in Des Moines, Iowa, discovered more than 10-grand in cash.
The money was in a red can that had been sitting on the customer service counter
for four days. Workers finally opened the can and called police after finding
all that dough. Authorities are investigating who the money belongs to and how
it ended up in a Kmart.
PYTHON CAUGHT
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - How do you catch a 12-foot long Burmese python? With a
garbage can, of course. A bike rider spotted the snake in Port Tampa, Fla., and
stopped by a fire station for help. Firefighter Aaron Taylor tells the Tampa
Tribune it was a monster. Police and firefighters managed to guide the reptile
into a big plastic garbage can. They rolled it back to the firehouse and waited
for a wildlife expert. Vernon Yates of Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation says
the big snake is probably someone's pet because it's "extremely friendly" and
well-behaved.
COLLECTIBLES FOR COLLEGE
BURTON, Mich. (AP) - NASCAR is paying for Monte Mansfield's college education.
His grandfather was a big-time NASCAR fan and collected the giant postcards that
were handed out for free at races. Mansfield had collected more than 300,000 of
them. His widow sold some to pay Monte's tuition and expenses at Michigan's Mott
Community College. But there's more to the collection than just the postcards.
The Flint Journal reports Mansfield had everything from a tire off of champion
Richard Petty's race car to an autographed can of STP oil treatment.
PLANE SPLASHDOWN-HAT
SAN RAMON, Calif. (AP) - It's a hero's hat -- and it could be yours. An
autographed pilot's hat belonging to Capt. Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger is being
offering on eBay. Sullenberger is, of course, the pilot who guided his jet to an
emergency landing in the Hudson River nearly a year ago. The auction is to
benefit Dougherty Valley High in San Ramon, Calif., where the Sullenbergers'
daughters go to school, and its sister school, Lockwood Elementary in East
Oakland. It's not the hat Sullenberger was wearing when he ditched the US
Airways jet in the river. But the winning bidder will also get a personal note
from Sullenberger and his wife, Lorrie. The auction runs for about another week.
Last night, bidding had topped $2,500.
MIDDLE SEAT BLUES
EASTPOINTE, Mich. (AP) - Going to Vegas didn't cost Kathy Kuhn an arm and a leg.
But her knee is another issue. The suburban Detroit woman is suing Northwest
Airlines. Kuhn charges she injured her knee while trying to climb into the
middle seat. The suit claims Kuhn needed surgery to repair a ligament after
wrenching her knee on an armrest that wouldn't go up. Northwest denies
responsibility for the 2007 injury.
