Power outage hits Ohio mall on Black Friday

DAYTON, OH Dayton Power & Light's director of operations Judi Blair says the outage just after 11 a.m. affected about 3,900 customers, including the Dayton Mall, where power was out for about an hour. She tells the Dayton Daily News that the outage was caused by an equipment failure and also affected other businesses and a hospital, which had a backup generator.

Miami Township Police Maj. John DiPietro says extra officers already were at the mall to help with shopping traffic and were able to respond quickly when traffic signals failed near the mall.

He tells the newspaper that some stores closed, but here were no other reported problems.
