FRANKENMUTH Vandals knocked over, bent and completely destroyed several holiday displays set
up outside Bronner's Christmas Wonderland in Frankenmuth.
"This is not how I planned on spending Christmas morning," said Bronner's
Christmas Wonderland President and CEO Wayne Bronner. "I was going to spend
Christmas morning with my family unwrapping some presents."
Instead, Bronner was accessing the damage outside of his store.
"Apparently some time last night [or] early this morning, a number of individuals
came out and made their way around the perimeter of the building," said
Frankenmuth Police Detective Randy Flathau.
The vandals knocked down a life-sized Santa and his reindeer, split a nutcracker in half and smashed and dismembered several other displays.
The Bronners estimate $30-40,000 worth of damage.
There has been other acts of vandalism in the store's 65-year history, but none as
severe as the damage done this weekend.
"It's heartbreaking because this is the kind of day that people would come
through and they would enjoy all of these displays. Now they are going to come
through and see a bunch of broken off pieces and damage," Bronner said.
Frankenmuth Police and the Michigan State Police are working together on the
investigation. They will review surveillance video and whoever is responsible could face felony
charges.
The Bronners told ABC12 they are offering a substantial award to anyone who can
provide any information that will help lead to an arrest.
