After having several drinks at a casino bar, police said Shawley went berserk, grabbed a pipe and attacked anyone in his path, including a 67-year-old woman, nightclub workers and police officers.
Shawley finally was tackled and taken to a hospital where tests showed his blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit.
His attorney hopes to convince a jury his drinks were spiked with drugs, and he should be allowed to remain in the military and not go to prison.
