Iowa boy rides out tornado inside dryer

May 13, 2011 12:00:00 AM PDT
An 11-year-old boy was saved by a home appliance when a tornado ripped through his home in Iowa.

Austin Miller was home alone when two tornadoes swept through the town of Lenox.

As one of the twisters tore through his home, Austin called his mother who told him to get into the laundry room. The boy's mother was just blocks away but could not reach her home in such conditions.

Austin crawled into the dryer where he rode out the tornado.

A short time later, his mother ran through the front door yelling his name. That's when he popped out of the laundry room uninjured.

Their home sustained heavy damage.
