Airman Randy Phillips, who is serving in Germany, posted a video of his conversation on YouTube.
He chose Tuesday, the day the ban on gays openly serving in the military was repealed, to tell his father about his sexual orientation.
"Dad, I'm gay," Phillips said to his father. "Like always have been, have known since forever. You still love me?"
"I still love you, son. Yes, I still love you," his father responded.
The father assured his son that the news would not change their relationship. He told his son he was very proud of him.
