Arthur Schultz died Saturday night at the age of 78. He reportedly died at a Joliet hospice home with his family at his side.
Schultz retired in May after serving five terms and 20 years in office.
Schultz had been hospitalized the past two weeks, suffering from congestive heart failure.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
