Research uses maggots to clean large wounds

The larvae, which are a form of the common maggot, are adept at removing dead tissue from wounds.

French researchers studied two groups of diabetic leg wound patients and found, after two weeks, the group using the larvae treatment had 10 percent less dead tissue around the wound than those treated by a doctor's scalpel.
