Surf Beach in Santa Barbara County reopens after deadly shark attack

SURF BEACH, near Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif.

Authorities said the 72-hour closure expired Friday, three days after a surfer was bitten on the upper torso and killed by a great white shark said to be at least 15 feet in length.

Officials say the waters at Surf Beach are safe for the public.

No shark sightings have been reported but some beachgoers are not convinced.

This is the third shark attack on Surf Beach, and the second fatal shark attack in the past two years.
