Keyshawn Johnson, ex-NFL star, cleared of domestic battery

CALABASAS, Calif.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Johnson and his ex-girlfriend were discussing the future of their relationship while consuming alcohol on April 21 at a home in Calabasas when "things just got heated."

During the conversation, Johnson's ex-girlfriend began receiving text messages on her phone. That's when he became upset and attempted to take it from her.

The victim's shirt collar was torn during the struggle. She also sustained a small scratch to her finger. The Los Angeles DA's Office says Johnson never hit, kicked, nor slapped her.

Following his arrest, the suspect's ex-girlfriend became uncooperative with police. Prosecutors have since declined to file charges since "there were no other witnesses, and based upon the available evidence, the injury appears to have been minor and caused accidentally."

Johnson and his former girlfriend were allegedly in a relationship for about seven years and have children together.
