Cool Kid Eddie Galindo teaches fellow students tolerance through teamwork

MISSION HILLS, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Our ABC7 Cool Kid for Thursday, May 28, is Eddie Galindo, who created a club to help his fellow students better understand and accept one another by learning about their backgrounds and any challenges they may have faced.

The club is called "My Name, My Story" at Bishop Alemany High School. The members share their life stories and any challenges they've dealt with.

Eddie said the club helps by blurring racial and ethnic lines between people.

"If it's an African American with a Latino (and) they have the same problem, they could talk about it and see what similarities they have within themselves," he said.

While the club starts a dialogue, Eddie said the teamwork and community service are other ways the club brings people together. One example is a clothing drive the members organized for the Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission.

He said the members had a great time realizing what their teamwork could accomplish and seeing how many people were helped.

When students join the club, they are often dealing with hardships. But Eddie feels that as the members all come together to work on a project, it lifts everyone's spirits.

"I think it benefits them in some way, seeing that some people do need help and that they're not alone. That they can actually help people who are in need," he said.

Eddie is helping to create a culture of empathy and service at his school and in his community.
