Student stabbed at Irvine high school; classmate arrested

IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- A freshman student was arrested for assaulting another student at an Irvine high school Wednesday afternoon.

At 12:37 p.m., Irvine police officers responded to Woodbridge High School regarding a male freshman student who had been stabbed. He was transported to an area hospital with a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

The suspect was identified as a male freshman student who had fled the scene on foot. He was quickly located and arrested at his home near the school around 1 p.m.

The incident and arrest happened during the school's lunch hour and was not placed on lock down, authorities said.

School resource officers and detectives were on campus conducting an investigation and located the weapon.

Irvine police are working with Woodbridge High School and the Irvine Unified School District to provide support for students and staff. Authorities say this is an isolated incident and no additional danger is posed to students related to the stabbing.
