LA MIRADA, Calif. (KABC) -- A barricaded man was detained after an hours-long standoff at his La Mirada home on Wednesday.

Orange County sheriff's deputies set up a perimeter in the 8000 block of Ashgrove Drive after receiving a call at about 11:05 a.m. from the man's roommate. The roommate told authorities that the man was mentally ill.

The barricaded man was believed to be armed and the only person in the home, deputies said.

Three nearby schools - Eastwood Elementary School, GIM Place Preschool and Los Coyotes Middle School - were temporarily placed on lockdown as a precaution. The lockdowns were lifted by about 2 p.m.

By about 5:45 p.m., a SWAT team could be seen detaining the man on the sidewalk.
