Crews make progress on brush fires burning in Moreno Valley, Acton

Two brush fires broke out as Santa Ana winds picked up across Southern California on Friday.

The Springs Fire was reported around 11 a.m. on Gilman Springs Road in Moreno Valley, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. As the fire grew, it threatened homes in the Moreno Valley Ranch neighborhood.

Meanwhile, in northern Los Angeles County, crews were battling another, smaller brush fire in the Acton area, dubbed the Crown Fire.

Both fires triggered evacuation orders and warnings, all of which were lifted by Saturday evening, when both fires reached 95% containment.

Officials expand evacuation orders, warnings near Springs Fire

As the Springs Fire grows to 1,000 acres, Cal Fire has expanded evacuations in the area.

Evacuation orders are in place for the following zones: MOE-0747, MOE-0507, MOE-0745, RVC-0826, RVC-0748, RVC-0825

Evacuation warnings are in place for the following zones: MOE-0746, MOE-0638, MOE0637, MOE-0640, MOE-0506, MOE-0744, MOE-0504, MOE-0505, MOE-0641, MOE-0639.

Springs Fire scorches 1,000 acres

A brush fire broke out in the Inland Empire Friday morning, triggering evacuations as Santa Ana winds picked up across Southern California.

Crews are battling two separate brush fires in Riverside and Los Angeles counties, which broke out as Southern California is whipped by Santa Ana winds.

The so-called Springs Fire was reported around 11 a.m. on Gilman Springs Road in Moreno Valley, according to Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. At least 1,000 acres have burned so far.

Evacuation orders were issued for the area around the fire. That impacts the following zones: MOE-0507, RVC-0748, RVC-0826. Evacuation zone information is available at https://protect.genasys.com/fullscreenMap?z=11.408434606993993&latlon=33.87989441064421%2C-117.11772989696317.

Gilman Springs Road is closed from Alessandro Road to Bridge Street.

The cause of the fire was under investigation, and no injuries were immediately reported.

Winds drive Spring and Crown fires

Wind gusts are driving brush fires in Riverside and Los Angeles counties.

The Crown Fire in Acton is seeing wind gusts up to 55 mph, according to ABC7 Meteorologist Danny Ramero.

The Spring Fire in Moreno Valley is seeing wind gusts up to 35 mph, Ramero said.

A wind advisory is in place for Riverside County. A high wind warning for the Acton area has been extended to 6 p.m.
