Monterey Park fire truck crash: No charges filed

MONTEREY PARK, Calif. (KABC) -- After a yearlong investigation, no charges have been filed in a collision between two fire engines in Monterey Park that injured nine people last year.

On April 16, 2014, an Alhambra fire engine responding to an emergency call ran a red light going about 15 mph on Garfield Avenue. When it approached Emerson Avenue, the Alhambra fire engine crashed into a Monterey Park fire engine responding to the same emergency. The Monterey Park fire engine was driving through a green light at about 20 to 25 mph.

During the crash, the Monterey Park fire engine was pushed into a pedestrian, a street pole and ultimately crashed into Lu Dumpling House restaurant.

"Due to Alhambra Fire Engine's unsafe operation, the front of Alhambra's Fire Engine collided into the front of Monterey Park's Fire Engine," according to statement by a California Highway Patrol spokesman.

Both fire engines had their emergency lights and sirens on.

A total of four pedestrians and five restaurant customers were injured.
