San Francisco police are searching for a suspect accused of pushing a man in front of a Muni train during a fight at the Civic Center station Sunday night.

SAN FRANCISCO -- A man is in stable condition after he was pushed onto the Muni train tracks Sunday night during a fight at the Civic Center station in San Francisco.

A preliminary investigation revealed two males were fighting on the station platform when one of the men pushed the other into an oncoming Muni train around 9 p.m.

The man suffered a serious head injury, but was able to pull himself off the Muni tracks. He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, but was upgraded to stable condition overnight.

"The Muni station agent was able to see this happening on cameras and contacted police. The station agent was only able to see the verbal and physical altercation, but it's unknown what the relationship was," San Francisco officer Albie Esparza said.

The man was allegedly pushed so hard he broke a window on the side of the Muni train when he hit it.

"I come up the stairs and there's a window, looks like somebody took a sledgehammer to the driver's side window. Whole train's clear. They were interviewing one guy and there's a bunch of cops all around it," Elliot Fox said.

The suspect fled the scene and was still being sought. Muni officials said they don't know why the men were fighting.
