SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (KABC) -- Health officials have confirmed the first flu-related deaths in San Bernardino County.

The San Bernardino County Department of Public Health released a statement on Thursday confirming the deaths of two adults from the High Desert area. Officials said both had underlying medical conditions, and one was vaccinated.

As of Jan. 24, there have been a total of nine confirmed flu-related deaths across the state, according to the California Department of Public Health.

Officials said flu activity continues to rise in California, including reports of severe illness leading to hospitalizations.

A seasonal flu shot is recommended every year to those age 6 months and older.
