EL MONTE, Calif. (KABC) -- A California Highway Patrol vehicle was struck in a hit-and-run collision while parked on the 10 Freeway in El Monte Saturday.
Two officers were handling an incident on the shoulder of the eastbound 10 Freeway, just east of Peck Road, when a minivan and a dark sedan crashed nearby at about 2 a.m.
The minivan then slammed into the patrol car, causing the CHP vehicle to subsequently catch fire.
The two CHP officers were not injured. The driver of the minivan was extricated by Los Angeles County firefighters and transported to LAC+USC Medical Center with moderate injuries.
The driver of the dark sedan, described as a Mitsubishi Eclipse, fled the scene.
