Family of missing mother fear human remains could be hers

GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Human remains were found near a ravine in Santa Clarita Monday, and the parents of a woman who has been missing since 2012 want to know if those remains could be hers.

Bob Alexander describes his daughter Megan Di Piazza as an "all-American girl." The Crescenta Valley High School graduate and mother of one has been missing since November 2012.

Di Piazza, who was going through a divorce at the time, was last seen in Sunland. Her Toyota Scion is still missing as well.

"Her purse was on the table, her wallet was out. The only thing that was missing was a, I believe, ATM card and the car keys," Alexander said.

Investigators said the remains found in Santa Clarita appeared to be months to years old.

It's not the first time a discovery of human remains possibly connected to Di Piazza's case.

"Every time it comes on the TV, you know, your stomach just wrenches up, and you sort of feel nauseous," Alexander said.

The Alexanders hope Di Piazza is still alive.

"The odds are that, no, but you don't give up hope," Alexander said. "When your kids go before you, it's tough."

Glendale police say the coroner does have Di Piazza's DNA, and they plan to test the new human remains.
