Temecula brush fire along 15 Fwy 30 percent contained

TEMECULA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 139-acre vegetation fire that erupted along Interstate 15 in Temecula was 30 percent contained, fire officials said early Sunday.

The blaze broke out shortly before noon on Saturday off the shoulder of the 15 Freeway, just south of Temecula Parkway.

The brush fire was at about 70 acres Saturday evening and grew to 139 acres Sunday morning, according to updates from the Riverside County Fire Department.

Fire officials said one firefighter sustained a non-life threatening injury and was being treated at a hospital.

More than 200 firefighters and a helicopter worked to put out the blaze. No structures were threatened.

Many drivers and residents in the area reported seeing the dark clouds of smoke and flames along the freeway.

The cause of the brush fire was unknown.
