Uggie the dog, who starred in 2011's The Artist, has died. He was 13.

The Jack Russell terrier passed away on August 7 after battling a prostate tumor. Omar von Muller, the dog's owner, confirmed the news via Facebook post.

Uggie has been a big star around the Hollywood dog park for years, starring in films like Hollywood Rockers and Water for Elephants. It wasn't until Uggie played the lovable pet of Jean Dujardin's character in the The Artist that the dog became a household name.

Uggie made canine movie history in 2012, when he became the first dog to cement his paws outside of the historic Grauman's Chinese Theatre.
