MURRIETA, Calif. (KABC) -- A suspected DUI driver plowed into an apartment complex and landed on top of a fence in Murrieta Tuesday night.

Officers responded to the 2800 block of Calle Del Lago shortly before 9 p.m. and discovered a driver trapped inside an SUV.

Investigators said the woman was traveling westbound on Hotsprings Road from Winchester Road when she lost control, swerved into oncoming traffic, launched over a curb and crashed into the apartment complex where she got stuck.

The driver, a woman in her 40s, suffered minor injuries and was taken out of the vehicle by rescue crews.

Police were investigating whether drunk driving is to blame for the dramatic crash. The woman was taken into custody for possible DUI.

Nobody inside the apartment complex was injured, police said, but residents were displaced for the night while inspectors evaluated the building's damage.
