TORRANCE, Calif. (KABC) -- A one-month-old girl has died after being bitten by the family dog in Torrance.
"They're good people. They just didn't pay attention to what they should've paid attention to, which is really a tragedy," said Faye Tohidi, a family friend. "It's really sad."
The Torrance Police Department received a call about an animal bite on Martha Avenue around 12:34 p.m. Tuesday. The city fire department responded and discovered that the baby had been bitten.
The baby girl was taken to the hospital but did not survive, police said. An official cause of death has not been determined.
Tohidi says there were multiple dogs in the house, including a mastiff, a pit bull mix, and one other mixed breed dog.
"I'm a dog person myself, and I have a dog at home, but the matter is that you don't bring your infant to an atmosphere that has so many big dogs around. And it was wrong to begin with," she said.
Police say officers have been called to the house in the past, but none of the calls were animal or DCFS related.
Police say all dogs from the household have been taken by Torrance Animal Control. We reached out to animal control, but haven't heard back yet.
