Deputies shoot woman in East Pasadena neighborhood

EAST PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) -- A 44-year-old woman was shot by Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies in an East Pasadena neighborhood Friday.

Deputies were called at 10:45 a.m. to the 3000 block of Yorkshire Road about a woman armed with a gun in the street. The woman's husband and neighbors called 911.

"A resident called and said their family member had some medical issues and she was armed with a firearm," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Lt. Holly Francisco said.

When deputies approached her, the woman pointed the gun at the deputies, causing one deputy to open fire, Francisco said.

The suspect was taken to a hospital in fair condition. She was struck once in the arm, according to authorities.

During the initial investigation, the firearm was recovered at the scene. No deputies were injured.

Officials said deputies had been called to the home in the past, but did not specify a reason.

An investigation was underway.
