Federal prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into the Los Angeles Clippers, according to a report by The New York Times.

The team is accused of circumventing the NBA salary cap involving Kawhi Leonard.

Last week, the NBA punished the franchise with a $30 million fine and suspended owner Steve Ballmer. The league also stripped the Clippers of five first-round draft picks.

The Clippers have said they intend to vigorously challenge the findings and penalties.

This is a developing story. This article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
