INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- Two firefighters were hurt while battling a huge commercial fire in Inglewood on Friday.

AIR7 video from above the scene shows plumes of black smoke engulfing the building on Century Boulevard.

"So at 10:28 this morning, units responded to the 4300 block of Century Boulevard and to a commercial building fire. Upon arrival, the first arriving engine, they did see smoke from the commercial building. With access issues and the fire growing in intensity inside, and fire going through the roof, they called for a second alarm assignment at 11:02," said Capt. Devid Dantic with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

A massive firefighting response rushed to the scene to battle the flames.

"We have over 90 firefighters on scene, and a second alarm assignment in a defensive posture, ensuring that the exposures are taken care of. There are apartments to the east and west of the building, and making sure that the fire does not go into those areas," Dantic said.

Officials said two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

"The two firefighters have been evaluated and treated for minor injuries. They will be transported," Dantic said. "No civilian injuries as far as we know. We have to do a due diligence after the fire is out. We'll make sure we do another check."

AIR7 video shows firefighters on the roof of the smoky building during their efforts to extinguish the flames. A small portion of the roof reportedly collapsed.

Residents in the area told Eyewitness News the building used to be a 99 Cent Store, but it's been abandoned for some time.

Firefighters didn't say what was inside the building. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
