During a recent episode of Gov. Gavin Newsom's podcast, he discussed the possibility of making a decision in the Menendez brothers case before Labor Day if the state parole board recommends their release.
Erik and Lyle Menendez are scheduled to appear before the parole board in August. If the panel recommends granting their freedom, the decision will be sent to Newsom's desk for possible approval.
On the "This is Gavin Newsom" podcast, the governor talked about the case with Ryan Murphy, who created the Netflix series "Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story."

"Would you get this -- what -- the 21st, the 22nd?" Murphy asked Newsom.
"Yeah," the governor replied.
"Then you can watch this over your Labor Day trip," Murphy said, referring to the "Monsters" series that Newsom said he has not seen.
"I'm going to see if I made the right decision," the governor said, laughing. "Like, 'Jesus, I should've watched this before.'"
Newsom said he has not yet watched the Netflix series because he would not want it to influence his decision whether or not to have the Menendez brothers released from prison.
The parole board hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21 and 22.
