How many different Week 1 starting QBs has each NFL team used?

Since the NFL expanded to 32 teams in 2002, no team has used more Week 1 starting quarterbacks than the Browns with 18. While the Browns aren't expected to add to that total this year with the announcement thatDeshaun Watson will start Week 1, several teams are adding to their totals.

Here's a look at how many different starting quarterbacks each team has utilized in Week 1 since 2002.

Cleveland Browns - 18

Most Starts: Baker Mayfield (3)
Deshaun Watson will make his third opening-day start for the Browns in 2026, which will tie him with Baker Mayfield for the most by a Browns quarterback since the team returned to the NFL in 1999.

Cleveland is 3-23-1 in openers since 1999. Watson has the chance to become the first Browns quarterback to win multiple openers in that time.

Washington Commanders - 15

Most Starts: Jason Campbell (3), Robert Griffin III (3) and Kirk Cousins (3)
If Jayden Daniels makes his third straight opening-game start as expected, he'll match the most by a Washington quarterback since 2002. If he's able to continue the streak in 2027, he'll become the first Washington quarterback to start four straight since Mark Rypien from 1989 to 1993.

Minnesota Vikings - 13

Most Starts: Kirk Cousins (6)
Kyler Murray has the most Week 1 starts for the Cardinals since 2002 and will now be the fourth different Week 1 starter in five seasons under coach Kevin O'Connell.

Arizona Cardinals - 12

Most Starts: Kyler Murray (6)
Jacoby Brissett is expected to make his fourth opening-game start for his fourth different franchise (Browns, Colts, Patriots). That would be the most opening-game starts in the Super Bowl era without having multiple with any one team.

Las Vegas Raiders - 12

Most Starts: Derek Carr (9)
The Raiders are adding a new starter to their total regardless of who gets the nod in Week 1, which will make it five straight years with a different Week 1 starter. It's either Kirk Cousins, who is 3-7 in his career on opening day, or Fernando Mendoza, who'd be making his NFL debut.

New York Jets - 12

Most Starts: Mark Sanchez (4) and Chad Pennington (4)
Geno Smith is expected to make his third Week 1 start for the Jets, but his first since the 2014 season. No quarterback in the Super Bowl era has had a longer gap between opening-day starts for a single franchise. Currently the largest is by Brad Johnson, who started the 1998 and 2006 openers for the Vikings.

Denver Broncos - 12

Most Starts: Peyton Manning (4) and Jake Plummer (4)
Since John Elway retired, no Broncos quarterback has started more than four season openers. Bo Nix is slated to start his third straight this season.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 11

Most Starts: Josh Freeman (4) and Jameis Winston (4)

*Includes 2017, when Buccaneers started their season in Week 2 due to Hurricane Irma
Baker Mayfield is 3-0 with the Buccaneers in Week 1 after going 0-4 in such games with the Browns and Panthers. No Buccaneers quarterback has ever won four season openers.

San Francisco 49ers - 11

Most Starts: Alex Smith (5)
Brock Purdy will be looking to improve to 4-0 in Week 1 games as the 49ers' starting quarterback. Maybe no surprise, but Steve Young (6-3) and Joe Montana (5-5) are the only Niners quarterbacks with more season-opening wins in the Super Bowl era.

Chicago Bears - 10

Most Starts: Jay Cutler (8)
The first two Week 1 starts by Caleb Williamscame at home, but he'll make his first road start in an opener this season. The Bears are 4-15 in season openers on the road in the Super Bowl era.

Houston Texans - 10

Most Starts: Matt Schaub (7)
C.J. Stroud will make his fourth opening-day start, trailing only Matt Schaub (7) and David Carr (5) for most in franchise history. Stroud is 1-2 in Week 1 games.

Jacksonville Jaguars - 10

Most Starts: Trevor Lawrence (5)
Trevor Lawrence is expected to make his sixth straight opening-day start for the Jaguars. That would tie Mark Brunell for the longest streak in franchise history.

Indianapolis Colts - 10

Most Starts: Peyton Manning (9)
Since Andrew Luck's retirement ahead of the 2017 season, the Colts are tied for the most season-opening starting quarterbacks with the Commanders (8 each). Daniel Jones is projected to make his second straight opening day start for the Colts.

Miami Dolphins - 10

Most Starts: Ryan Tannehill (6)

*Includes 2017, when Dolphins started their season in Week 2 due to Hurricane Irma
Malik Willis is entering his fifth NFL season but will be making his first Week 1 start. He'll be the 11th opening-day starting quarterback for the Dolphins since Dan Marino retired.

Pittsburgh Steelers - 9

Most Starts: Ben Roethlisberger (15)
Aaron Rodgers could be making his 19th and final opening-day start. That would tie Drew Brees for second most in the Super Bowl era and put him one shy of Tom Brady (20).

Carolina Panthers - 9

Most Starts: Cam Newton (8)
Bryce Young is making his fourth opening-day start for the Panthers, but he's still searching for his first Week 1 win. The last quarterback to lose his first four opening-day starts? Baker Mayfield.

Tennessee Titans - 9

Most Starts: Marcus Mariota (5)
The Titans have lost five straight season openers, the longest active streak in the NFL and the longest streak in franchise history. Cam Ward, the 2025 No. 1 pick, is slated to make his second straight opening-day start for Tennessee.

Buffalo Bills - 9

Most Starts: Josh Allen (7)
Josh Allen has the most opening day starts for the Bills since 2002, but he still has some work to do to catch the Bills' franchise leaders. Joe Ferguson (12) and Jim Kelly (11) each have more.

Los Angeles Rams - 8

Most Starts: Marc Bulger (6)
Reigning MVP Matthew Staffordis slated to make his 18th opening-game start, which would tie him with Brett Favre for fourth most in the Super Bowl era.

Stafford will also tie Marc Bulger for the most opening-day starts by a Rams quarterback since 2002.

Atlanta Falcons - 8

Most Starts: Matt Ryan (14)
Tua Tagovailoa would be the sixth different Week 1 starting quarterback for the Falcons in the past six years if he gets the nod. If it's Michael Penix Jr., he'd be the first repeat Week 1 starter for Atlanta since Matt Ryan started 14 straight openers (2008-21).

Philadelphia Eagles - 7

Most Starts: Donovan McNabb (8)
Jalen Hurts is 5-0 in season-opening starts. The last quarterback to win his first six season openers? Roger Staubach, who went 9-0 in his career in opening games.

New England Patriots - 6

Most Starts: Tom Brady (17)
The Patriots are only 2-4 in season openers since Tom Brady left for Tampa, including a loss in 2025 under Drake Maye.

Kansas City Chiefs - 6

Most Starts: Patrick Mahomes (8)
Patrick Mahomes started his career 5-0 in season openers but is 1-2 in his past three, including a loss last season to the Chargers.

His next Week 1 start will break a tie with Len Dawson for most by a Chiefs quarterback in the Super Bowl era.

Cincinnati Bengals - 5

Most Starts: Andy Dalton (9)
Carson Palmer (7), Andy Dalton (9) and Joe Burrow (7) are the only Week 1 starters for the Bengals since 2004. Burrow is 2-4 in season openers and 3-9 in the first two games of the season.

Seattle Seahawks - 5

Most Starts: Russell Wilson (10)
The reigning Super Bowl champions are 21-5 in Week 1 games this century but are just 2-2 in their past four.

Sam Darnold is 3-3 in his career in six opening-game starts.

Detroit Lions - 5

Most Starts: Matthew Stafford (12)
Jared Goff will be making his sixth straight opening game start, picking up where Matthew Stafford left off (12 straight). The last time the Lions had player who wasn'tthe No. 1 pick of a draft start in Week 1 was Jon Kitna in 2008.

Dallas Cowboys - 5

Most Starts: Dak Prescott (10)
Dak Prescott is expected to make his 11th season-opening start for the Cowboys. He'd be one shy of matching Troy Aikman (12) for the most season-opening starts in Cowboys history.

Baltimore Ravens - 5

Most Starts: Joe Flacco (11)
Joe Flacco is the only quarterback in Ravens history to make more opening-game starts than Lamar Jackson, who is expected to make his eighth straight in 2026. Flacco (8) and Jackson (4) are the only Ravens quarterbacks to win multiple Week 1 games.

New Orleans Saints - 5

Most Starts: Drew Brees (15)
Tyler Shough will be the fourth different Week 1 starting quarterback for the Saints since Drew Brees retired following the 2020 season and the third in three seasons.

New York Giants - 5

Most Starts: Eli Manning (15)
Jaxson Dart is expected to make his first career Week 1 start, which would make him the third different Week 1 starter in the past three seasons for the Giants. The last time they did that was 2003-05, which led to Eli Manning making 15 straight opening-game starts.

Los Angeles Chargers - 4

Most Starts: Philip Rivers (14)
Philip Rivers (14), Justin Herbert (5) and Drew Brees (4) have started 23 of the past 24 openers for the Chargers. The other starter makes for a good trivia answer. That was Tyrod Taylor, who started the 2020 opener in Herbert's rookie year.

Green Bay Packers - 3

Most Starts: Aaron Rodgers (15)
Jordan Love (3) still has a long way to go to catch Aaron Rodgers (15) and Brett Favre (15) in opening-game starts for the Packers in the Super Bowl era.

That trio has started every Week 1 game for the Packers since 1993. Don Majkowski was the last to start Week 1 before that.
