STUDIO CITY, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- There have been multiple burglaries in the San Fernando Valley recently, but a group of vigilant, tech-savvy residents are working together to keep each other safe.
A man - identified only as Matt - lives in Studio City and said there were two reported break-ins on his street just last week. He said someone tried to break into his home two months ago.
Matt said thieves wear masks and smash glass sliding doors to get in. Then, they leave in cars without license plates.
However, Matt and his neighbors are using that information to fight back.
"We're a pretty tech savvy group here, so we're using WhatsApp, we've got a community group for our neighborhood that has hundreds of families," he explained. "Whenever we see something suspicious, we try to let everyone else know. We started a neighborhood watch, so we're patrolling and having eyes out. When we see suspicious vehicles, we'll sometimes go up there, asking them, 'Hey, are you lost?' when you don't have the license plate, it's a particularly suspicious sign."
Plus, if something doesn't look right, they call it in to police as a "hot prowl."
In some cases, their videos have helped police catch suspects.
