Julie Bowen lends voice to 'Planes: Fire & Rescue' character

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- Julie Bowen voices the role of Lil' Dipper in "Planes: Fire & Rescue." It's a role she decided to do because she knew her three little boys would appreciate it.

"I absolutely did "Fire and Rescue" because I knew that they would love this, and they do, they already have the plane, they already have Dipper. They're like, 'Mom's a plane, mom's a plane,'" she said.

Mom is also an Emmy nominee, again.

Last week, for her work on TV's "Modern Family," Bowen received her fifth Supporting Actress in a Comedy nomination. She's already won two Emmys for the role.

When her nomination was announced, she was sleeping, but not for long.

"Around six, my children started jumping on me and I saw my phone had a bunch of texts, so I thought 'Oh', and I saw 'Congratulations,' and I thought, 'Oh, I guess I got a nomination.' But the kids were jumping on me because 'Mind Craft' had a new update. They couldn't care less and they wanted to know if they could at 6 a.m. play 'Mind Craft.'"

In this movie, there is a big fire, full of animated but very real-looking smoke and flames.

Bowen calls what our firefighters do "unbelievable" and she appreciates the teamwork message this movie offers.

"That's the message I'm hoping my kids will get is, you know, you can't do it alone, you can't do it on the first try. You're going to make mistakes and you're going to need people to help you and that is a message that can to apply to all kinds of things, not just firefighting," she said.

"Planes: Fire & Rescue" is rated PG.
