Lawsuit accusing Lizzo of harassment, discrimination tossed out by judge in LA
LOS ANGELES (CNS) -- A lawsuit in which a former wardrobe assistant sued singer-rapper Lizzo and her production company for alleged harassment and discrimination has been tossed by a federal judge in Los Angeles, according to court papers.
U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha dismissed designer Asha Daniels' remaining claims on Tuesday.
Daniels, who designed pieces for Lizzo's dancers during the singer's 2023 tour, filed suit in September 2023 against Lizzo, Big Grrrl Touring and others who worked on the Special Tour. The stylist alleged sexual and racial harassment, disability discrimination, retaliation and a hostile work environment while working in the tour's wardrobe department.
Lizzo was dropped as an individual defendant from the complaint two years ago, leaving her touring company as the sole defendant. The entertainer born Melissa Viviane Jefferson won the Record of the Year award at the 2023 Grammys for "About Damn Time."
Among other accusations, Daniels claimed a wardrobe manager rolled a clothing rack over her foot and later shoved her, leaving her injured. She also described sexually explicit comments and images in the workplace and alleged that members of the wardrobe team made racist and fat-phobic remarks.

Aenlle-Rocha wrote in a dismissal motion that the plaintiff "did not identify any conduct" that would "demonstrate general hostility to women in the workplace or disparate treatment of men and women."
Lizzo expressed relief that the lawsuit had been tossed.
"Today I am relieved to announce that I have won the case against me and my company Big Grrrl Touring," she wrote Tuesday on Instagram. "All the ridiculous claims by a wardrobe assistant who worked on tour for less than 3 weeks (including a claim they broke an acrylic nail) have been dismissed."
