Mom, daughter go missing while hiking in San Gorgonio Wilderness; search and rescue team scours area

FOREST FALLS, Calif. (KABC) -- A mother and her adult daughter were reported missing Thursday night after setting out on a hike in the San Gorgonio Wilderness area near Forest Falls, prompting an ongoing search by rescue personnel, authorities said.

Alexis Meyers Martinez, 21, was hiking with her mother, Krystal Meyers, 41, on Mount San Gorgonio's Vivian Creek Trail, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. Their last known location was the 10,300' level above the High Creek switchbacks at 11 a.m. Thursday, authorities said in a statement.

The hikers were reported missing shortly before 11:30 p.m.

"Our Search and Rescue personnel, aviation and our Real Time Information Center deputies are on scene assisting," the Sheriff's Department said. A command post was set up at the agency's Forest Falls substation on Highway 38 at Valley of the Falls Drive.

Anyone with information about the missing hikers was asked to call the Yucaipa police station at (909) 918-2305 or the WE-TIP hotline at (800) 78-CRIME (27463).
