NORWALK, Conn. -- A newly released police report shows that music icon Paul Simon made the 911 call that led to the arrests of him and his wife on disorderly conduct charges.
According to police, Simon, and his wife, singer Edie Brickell, became physical with each other during an argument last Saturday. Simon dialed 911 but hung up quickly, prompting police to respond to the home.
The report says Simon, 72, had a superficial cut on his ear, and Brickell, 48, smelled of alcohol and had a bruise on her wrist.
Brickell told officers she confronted Simon after he did something to "break her heart," but she did not give details. He apparently shoved her during the argument and she slapped him.
In court Monday, the couple held hands and told the judge they had a rare argument and don't need to get a protective order. Their next court appearance is schedule for May 16.
Simon and Brickell have been married since 1992 and have three children together.
Simon is a 12-time Grammy winner and member of The Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - as half of the duo of Simon and Garfunkel and as a solo artist.
Brickell collaborated last year with Steve Martin for the album "Love Has Come For You."
