Suspect in custody after wild early-morning chase in Hollywood area; passenger remains at large

HOLLYWOOD, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- One suspect was taken into custody and another remains on the run after they led police on a wild early-morning chase Wednesday through the Hollywood area.

The pursuit began in the San Pedro area around 6 a.m. after a white Toyota Avalon was reported stolen. It lasted about an hour and remained mostly in the Hollywood area.

AIR was overhead as the driver swerved in and out of lanes on the 101 Freeway, speeding and nearly hitting other vehicles.

The driver stopped the car near the 101 and Vermont Avenue and took off running into nearby bushes. At one point, the driver attempted to take off on a bicycle he found.

During a wild early-morning chase in Hollywood on Wednesday, the suspect tried to escape and even ran across the 101 Freeway.

After a brief search, officers caught up to the driver around Kenmore and Melrose avenues and took him into custody. The passenger, however, remains at large.
