Porsche unveils one-of-a-kind 'Toy Story' cars to benefit charities

LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- You might know Buzz, Woody, and Jessie from the "Toy Story" movies. Now, there are one-of-a-kind custom Porsches made as a tribute to the trio, coinciding with the opening of Toy Story 5.

"We thought, together with our friends at Disney and Pixar, that it would be an opportune time to do something fun, but also do something meaningful," said Frank Wiesmann, spokesperson for Porsche Cars North America.

The fun part: each 911 sports car is tailored to each character's persona and looks.

"Buzz is based on a GT3 RS, fitting with his big wing and aerospace technology, themed in white and green, special Goodyear tires that have a 'Lightyear' imprint,'" said Wiesmann. "Woody is a string-pull analog toy, so fittingly we have a Carrera T with a manual gearbox, analog car ... three different blue and white shades (for the exterior paint), sanded and matched together to create this denim worn-jean effect. Leather that doesn't look new, that looks specifically worn with a style of patina on it."

"Jessie's a free spirit, and the car matches that," Wiesmann added. "We have a special paint again, this one is called Jessie White Metallic. It's got a pearl overlay to match part of her outfit there, denim seat centers, yellow and red on the outside of the paint to match her look in the movie."

The meaningful part: the three cars are to benefit some worthy charities - the American Red Cross, Starlight Childrens Foundation, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Each special car is a true one-off. Porsche will not build any more like them, ever!

This is not the first time the creative people at Pixar and the creative people at Porsche have teamed up to do something special for charity.

Four years ago, they crafted a fully-functional Sally Carrera to honor the Cars franchise, auctioned off to raise $3.6 million for Girls Inc. and USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency.

So with "Toy Story" adoration on everyone's minds right now, a repeat of sorts. All three were sold to a private buyer, for an undisclosed amount.

In the end, the team had fun, and the charities benefit. A line from the ongoing "Toy Story" theme song, "You've got a friend in me" might apply here to the creative forces who built these special Porsches for some good causes.
