LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- The newest variation of the full-size Ram pick-up truck has a new look, a new name and some new attitude.
It's called the Ram Rebel and it turns up the wick a bit on off-road capability. It also gets a bit of a visual swagger, most notably in an aggressive new grill design, some tough-looking wheels and all-terrain tires. The tread design is even featured on the car seats.
The rebel comes on the heels of the ground-breaking factory-modified four-wheeler Ford Raptor. Its popularity and success surprised even Ford at times, with the company not able to build enough to meet demand and dealers adding big markups to the few they had.
Chrysler does not come right out and say it, but the success of the temporarily out-of-production Raptor had to inspire the Rebel, even though it's not as over-the-top in equipment as its competitor.
The old V-8 Ford Raptor may be out of production, but an all new one will arrive in late 2015, with a twin-turbo V-6 engine for better fuel efficiency and it will be 500 pounds lighter.
While the Ram Rebel has the hemi V-8, a V-6 is also available. Ram also offers an efficient diesel in its regular truck.
The Raptor and Rebel aren't high-volume trucks, but they're often seen as the pinnacle of regular pick-up trucks they're based on and many truck buyers want them.
